It rained and thundered during the night, which was cool, and just a little overcast today. Carol had a wedding to attend in Zurich, so I caught the train with her to check out that city and do my own thing. Though to be honest, the price of train tickets in this country had me strongly considering just hanging around her village for the day.
Zurich is pretty cool. The tourist info centre at the train station gave me a map and suggested walking route. I followed it about 100 metres then stopped at a large, traditional beer house for a refreshing beverage. Then I walked along the river to the lake. Lot's of buskers and free entertainment as well as all descriptions of people. I think I walked too far along the lake and perhaps into the gay pick-up area because three different guys smiled or stared at me in an interesting way. I was flattered of course, but quickly headed back toward the centre where the buskers were. To reassure myself of my sexuality I sat beside an Asian girl and made some stupid comment about the violinist busker who was playing. Well, it turned out she was Korean, from the same area I had lived in. So we got chatting about Korea and Switzerland and she told me she was studying German in Munich and living with a German family. It was really nice to talk to a Korean and talk about Korea. After an hour or so chatting, when the rain started, we went to a nearby bar.
I headed back to Carol's quite late on the train as Sungshin, the Korean girl, had some problems finding her train back. So it was pretty dark and rainy when I finally got back to Aarau. From there I had to drive her mum's car back to their village, but luckily I remembered the main land markers and made it back without incident. The cats were waiting for me and seemed happy I was back. But actually, I guess they just hadn't eaten all day and needed someone to open their food.
The river.
Chess in the park.
The biggest clock face in Europe. "Bigger than Big Ben", a proud Swiss told me.
Some kind of rally in the square. I fit right in.
The lake.
Enjoying a local brew with a foreign girl.
My new buddy, Sungshin, and I by the river.
Classic.
